Celiz, FNP
Weight Management Specialist
Gaida actually started her career as a Nurse Practitioner with Seriously Health (previously known as Seriously Weight Loss) and has garnered more than 11 years of experience working in obesity medicine.
She earned both her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and Master’s Degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) from Old Dominion University. She is board certified as a FNP by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Gaida is also currently a member of the Obesity Medicine Association (OMA), the largest network of healthcare providers “who work to advance the prevention, treatment, and reversal of the disease of obesity.” OMA members are considered clinical experts in the field of obesity medicine and to support this knowledge, she holds a Certificate of Advanced Education in Obesity Medicine for Nurse Practitioners from them. In order to help improve the lives of patients affected by obesity, Gaida is open to expanding her knowledge base in every area related to bariatric medicine-from the latest medications being developed for the treatment of obesity to trying to change the stigma and bias that obese patients face even from within the healthcare field.
“As someone who has struggled with weight issues myself since childhood due to a variety of different factors, I can approach the disease of obesity from both a patient and a provider viewpoint. This has also caused me to develop a passion for bariatric medicine and to use what I continuously learn about obesity, which has finally been recognized as both a complex and chronic disease state, to help patients treat and manage their often life-long weight problems.
I enjoy interacting with my patients and by building therapeutic relationships with them, I find that together we are better able to personalize their treatment plans, including the combination of positive lifestyle changes and bariatric medications, to meet their individual needs and unique obstacles. I love when I can help my patients come up with different ways to overcome challenges they are facing against their health goals and especially when I can celebrate their health victories achieved with them.
I have seen patients have other chronic medical issues that can be influenced by weight, such as high blood pressure, improve to the point that they can even come off medications. I have also seen patients come in tearful and feeling defeated about their weight problems but then with time, effort, patience, and a treatment plan with Seriously Health, they start to see results and regain confidence in themselves.
Seeing a positive difference in patients’ weights and overall health, makes me feel that what we do at Seriously Health is worthwhile.”
